On Friday AM, I headed out super early to the ChCh airport for my flight to Oz. Fairly last minute I decided to take a trip over the Tasman Sea to Sydney so I could check out Australia and visit with an old friend. My HS friend Lauren is living in Coogee Beach and offered me some free accommodation so I headed over. A reunion and a trip to the warm, sunshine of Oz, yes please!
I arrived early and caught a cab over to my residence for the next few nights. The place brought you back to freshman dorm days, but it was only blocks from the beach so it was glorious. The first part of the day was spent catching up with my friend who I hadn’t seen since 1997 (Go CHS Chiefs). We also spent some time buying Australia Day supplies including buying visors with the Oz flag on them and beer coozies aka stubby holders as they are called in Oz.
The main event of the day was the booze cruise to celebrate Kelly’s 30th birthday. Kelly is Lauren’s roommate and is from SF. At 7:45 pm we rolled up to Darling Harbour to board our boat for a Harbour cruise. Upon embarking, we got drinks and headed out to the deck to prepare to be gobsmacked by the sites of Sydney. We pushed off from the dock and I waited for the gobsmacking. Gobsmacking is the UK term and there were a lot of UK folks on board with us.
First I was gobsmacked by the Opera House.

Then there was the Harbour Bridge.

Then there was the combination of the two.

Overall, it was awesome and I was gobsmacked.
